That movie where Russell Crowe plays an exorcist might have mixed up the Spanish and Dragon Age Inquisitions-

The Pope’s Exorcist starring Russell Crowe is another one of those ambient movies for me, something whose ads I’ll see on Instagram in between lifting videos, ads for nootropics, pictures of modded Game Boys, and ads for meal prep services. Seriously, like a lot of the stuff on streaming these days, it looks like a fake movie from the Simpsons or 30 Rock, though it does look like they’ve got a Dragon Age fan or two on the crew.

I first noticed the swap by way of Kelgrid and Fleur Bleue on Twitter, though WhyNow Gaming points out that xMoonxCakex on the Dragon Age subreddit clocked this even earlier. It looks like, in the course of his regular exorcising, Russell Crowe exercises his right to check out a spooky crypt tied to the Spanish Inquisition. You can tell it’s the Spanish Inquisition because that’s their symbol chiselled on the wall, only they actually put the symbol of the Dragon Age Inquisition up there.

Although the names may sound the same, the Dragon A…

Minecraft is getting a new biome in update 1.20 after all-

Following the archeology announcement and those Sniffer details, Mojang has announced yet another Minecraft 1.20 feature today and it’s a sweet one. The update will include a new biome after all: the Cherry Blossom biome. Mojang had kept pretty quiet about whether we could expect a new biome in 1.20 so this is a nice Valentine’s surprise.

“These beautiful new trees fill the horizon with a stunning shade of pink,” Mojang says. “Of course these new trees can also be broken down and crafted into a full wood-set, including the newly introduced hanging signs and cherry tree saplings to grow more of the lovely pink trees.”

From the screenshots Mojang has shared in its announcement post, you can spot cherry blossoms floating through the air beneath the trees, landing strewn across the ground. And the cherry blossom saplings look pretty cute in flower pots too. When they’re full grown, Cherry Blossom trees have a purplish bark and pink wood inside. Apparently sheep, pigs,…

The Last of Us’ PC port is bad, but the bugs are great-

The PC port of The Last of Us Part 1 is not good. In fact, it’s bad. We’re talking shader-plague bad, random-crashes bad, all-the-Steam-reviews-are-real-angry bad. It’s a shambolic situation for a marquee Sony game and yet another in a long line of exhaustingly shitty PC ports.

But hear me out, what if it’s also a little bit good? Because I’ve been scanning through some of the clips and screenshots people are sharing online, and I think TLOU PC might be one of the finest works of absurd comedy of our era. I mean, look at this:

PC Joel lookin hella fine from r/thelastofus

To think, if TLOU’s PC version hadn’t careened into the platform backwards and on fire, we’d never know what it’d be like if Joel was played by Bogdan from Breaking Bad, and the world would be just that little bit darker.

Hair, in particular, seems to be an issue for the game at the moment. Whether Joel’s eyebrows, Tess’ waxy locks, or Joel’s daught…

A Wordle hint for Friday, September 29

The answer to today’s Wordle is a colour, specifically a very bright blue. This is the sort of blue you’d see in a cloudless summer’s sky or in a picture perfect tropical lagoon. Three of today’s five letters are vowels, and they’re all unique.

To go in somewhere or to input information into something are both alternative ways of saying the answer to today’s Wordle. Keyboards with a keypad will often have a special key with today’s answer written on them if you look. There’s just one vowel today. …

The Witcher season 3’s first teaser just dropped and yes, that’s still Henry as Geralt-

The Witcher season 3 on Netflix is getting closer—and it’s close enough now that Netflix has dropped the first official tease for Henry Cavill’s monster-hunting swan song.

Netflix started turning the crank on the hype machine earlier today with this tweet of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennerfer, and a brief, simple message: “Hold tight. ‘Til tomorrow.”

To be clear, because there’s been quite a bit of confusion on this point, that’s Henry Cavill as Geralt in the image. Cavill famously bailed on The Witcher after the revival of Superman (which all fell apart just a couple of short months later) and is being replaced by Liam Hemsworth, but not until season 4—Cavill will continue to portray Geralt through season 3.

That looming torch-pass has led to quite a few Twitter followers mourning the end of the series after this “final” season, the implication being that once Cavill leaves, so will they. Objectively, I think it’s a little unfair to Hemsworth and The Witcher …

Unsurprisingly, the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X don’t seem to be selling very well right now-

The recently launched AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X have been the subject of much… apathy? Indifference? Underwhelm? Take your pick. The epitome of these Zen 5 architecture chips has probably been the whole “Zen 5%” meme, referring to a mere 5% (or thereabouts) increase in performance. It’s not that these new chips are bad—far from it—they’re just not good enough for the cost.

It’s of little surprise, then, that we hear they’re not selling all too well—at least if Mindfactory’s sales numbers (via TechPowerUp) are anything to go by. At the time of writing, the website says that “over 20” 9600X SKUs and “over 30” 9700X SKUs have been sold.

There are many possible reasons for these low sales numbers. For one, it’s only a few days since these CPUs hit the shelves and people are still waiting for even more to do so. PC gamers are likely waiting to see what a 9000-series X3D CPU will be like—X3D referring to the 3D V-Cache th…

Cryptominers hope they can find a second life by turning their mining operations into AI farms-

Some large-scale crypto miners are looking for new ways to make money as demand for GPU-powered mining operations has significantly decreased over the last year. Some are hoping to turn that processing power elsewhere: to help train AI.

According to Bloomberg, some crypto mining companies have pivoted their business towards high-performance computing (HPC) services for customers working with AI. And they’re doing pretty well with it: Hut 8 Mining, for instance, told Bloomberg that its HPC business had generated approximately $16.9 million from its AI clients. Hive BlockChain bought $66 million worth of GPUs from Nvidia for its HPC endeavors and is projected to make about $98 million in revenue by the end of 2024.

Even Nvidia boss Jensen Huang predicts that AI models will become a million times more powerful within the next decade and expects to see the rise of “AI factories worldwide” to meet the ever-growing workload demands. And the amounts of money on the …

Wake up, Samurai—Cyberpunk 2077- Phantom Liberty Nvidia GPU driver just dropped-

It’s nearly time to play Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. And would you believe it’s an absolute scorcher of a game expansion. Before that happens, however, there’s still time to jump into the free 2.0 update to get your V ready for the new expansion and don’t forget to download the latest Nvidia Game Ready drivers out today.

These new drivers don’t promise much by way of specifics. Though Nvidia does say they provide “the best gaming experience for the latest new games supporting DLSS 3.5 technology and DLSS Ray Reconstruction including Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.”

That’s probably reason enough to go out and download this driver package. Cyberpunk is chocked full of the latest graphics features, including Ray Reconstruction. Our Dave has been playing around with Ray Reconstruction in Cyberpunk 2077 ahead of time, and he’s quite smitten with it already.

In his words, “It’s really, really good-looking. When I talk about Ray Reconstruction really grounding …

Be a swamp devil, cause chaos, steal stuff, in this lo-fi immersive sim-

What has eight eyes, a tail, and stabs people in the dark so it can steal their stuff? You, probably, once you download the demo for Brush Burial, a retro-inspired Thief-ish immersive sim about being a horrible little swamp devil named Fennel with eight eyes and a tail that stabs people in the dark so it can steal their stuff.

The developer describes it as a “First Person Snatcher” where “You play as Fennel, a knife-wielding swamp devil with an eye for gold and a penchant for violence. Use your tail to toy with your prey: grab and fling objects, climb impossible heights, and knock your enemies off balance.” Fennel gets up to stuff like stealing trinkets, befriending “thieves, brigands, and other charming troublemakers” and under your control navigating “hand-crafted environments blending the boundaries between the digital, the industrial, the natural, and the spiritual.”

It certainly earns its retro-inspired credentials, full of hand-drawn then crunched up textures mashe…
